Wolves want salami to replicate form

The Seasiders have told the new Super Eagles’
sensation to maintain the same performance he
displayed for the country in the last two Africa
Cup of Nations qualifiers for them
Warri Wolves have asked Super Eagles ’ striker,
Gbolahan Salami to work more for the overall
interest of the Seasiders same way he contribute
to the senior national team in his last two games
for the country in the Africa Cup of Nations
qualifying double header against Congo and Sout
Africa recently.
Salami impressed against the Red Devils of
Congo when he came on in the second half and
scored a goal - the Eagles’ second - in the 2-3
loss to the East Africans in Calabar on Septembe
7.
His performance earned him a starting shirt
against Bafana Bafana of South Africa and he
never disappointed throughout the duration of th
game as he combined his attacking duties with
falling back to assist the defence when the hosts
were on the prowl and looked likely to score.
Warri Wolves hailed Salami’s impact in both
games calling him a good ambassador of the clu
but the Seasiders has tasked the former junior
international to maintain the same work ethics fo
them in the remaining part of the 2013/14 league
season.
“Salami is a good player and he showed this wit
what he displayed for the Super Eagles in the tw
matches he played against Congo and South
Africa. We were surprised to see him marking an
doing all sort of dirty jobs to assist his
teammates but he does nothing of the sort in
Warri Wolves. He doesn’t chase after balls when
he is dispossessed. We want him to turn a new
leaf for the good of all.
“We are happy with his progress in the national
team but his rise should rub off positively on us
and our league standing. He could actually do
more for us just like he displayed for the Eagles i
the last two matches,” Warri Wolves’ media
officer, Moses Etu told Goal.
Meanwhile, Warri Wolves players and officials
have received their August Salary after a little
delay Goal can confirm.
Etu told Goal that the players were paid on
Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s Nigeria Premier
League Week 26 tie at home to Sunshine Stars.
He also confirmed that the club had restored the
slashed salary of some of their players who were
placed on half salary owing to poor performance
adding that the players have shown enough
remorse and have their output in the team
improved.
Former junior international Kola Anubi, Achibi
Ewenike, Efe Yarhere and Omoforman Freedom
were among the players affected in the salary cut
but have now been told by the club’s Managing
Director, Davidson Owumi that they would start
getting their approved monies back.
Warri Wolves are eighth on the log with 37 points
from 25 matches and they have a chance of
overtaking their opponents, Sunshine Stars if the
secure maximum points from the encounter.
